Getafe chairman Angel Torres confirmed the move on Wednesday in a departing press conference, despite no official confirmation from Valencia.

‘For me there is pride in our coach going to a friendly club like Valencia,’ he said.

Former boss Javi Gracia was sacked at the start of May by Valencia after 10 months in charge.

The ex-Watford boss won just eight LaLiga matches at the Mestalla and left with four games to play.

Bordalas will become his successor having seen Salvador Gonzalez take charge on an interim basis until the end of the season.
