Jordan Henderson insists Liverpool are relishing the thrills and spills of their title race against Manchester City.

But Henderson holds no fear despite the fact that a title challenge has been rarefied air for the Reds in recent years.

The 28-year-old told the Mirror: ‘There are no free swings when you play for Liverpool and nor should there be.

‘No-one here wants to be the underdog or the outsider – all of our team want expectation always because it means you’re performing at the highest level.

‘One place that discussion has not happened is at Melwood. There’s no need to prioritise so we don’t.

‘We have to have the attitude in each and every game that the priority is to win. It’s that simple. If you give yourself an excuse you’ll end up with nothing. We look for and make no excuses. Ever.’

Liverpool trail City on goal difference but still have a game in hand over the Premier League champions.

With 12 games to go, the pressure is only set to intensify on Henderson and his side will be desperate to break the run of 19 years without winning England’s top flight.
