The 38-year-old is currently employed as assistant manager at Aston Villa and forwards coach Steve Borthwick insisted he was a welcome onlooker.

He said: ‘To have the opportunity to speak to someone like him with his experience is excellent. It’s a different sport, yes, but it’s fantastic to to chat to someone so successful.’

Borthwick revealed Terry told him: ‘It’s a different sport and different perspective, but you talk about the traits of successful teams. We’re trying to keep learning and keep developing to be a successful team. He (Terry) talked about how the senior playing group led and drove the standards at training.’

Fellow footballing luminaries including Gareth Southgate, Antonio Conte and Alan Pardew have previously been invited along.

Eddie Jones will name his team to face Wales on Thursday, before the squad travel down the M4 to Cardiff on Friday afternoon.

Jones will cut his current training squad down from 33 to 25 on Tuesday evening – with the main decision being who stays in camp following an injury to Chris Ashton.

England hope to have Ashton available for the final two rounds of their Six Nations title quest as the Sale wing battles a calf strain.

Ashton suffered the injury in training during the squad’s three-day camp in London and will receive treatment at his club this week, ruling him out of the Wales game.

It is hoped the Sharks wing will return in time to face Italy and Scotland, however.

Jack Nowell impressed in the round one win over Ireland but was demoted to the bench against France, enabling Ashton to make his first Six Nations start for six years.

Nowell is the obvious candidate to reclaim the number 14 jersey against Warren Gatland’s side but another option is Joe Cokanasiga.

Jones put his players through their paces again on Tuesday morning as they look to maintain their unbeaten start to the competition.

Images showed the forwards producing some bone-crunching tackles on their team-mates as they landed on crash mats while the likes of Owen Farrell and Henry Slade worked on their attacking plan.

England have scored 10 tries in the opening two games and have used their kicking game to their advantage. They left France in all sorts of trouble last time out with pinpoint kicks through the line to the onrushing backs.

England will be confident of completing the Grand Slam if they can navigate themselves to victory over the Welsh. After this weekend, England will have home games against Italy and Scotland to come.
