West Ham have been dealt with a major blow with Jarrod Bowen’s foot injury reportedly worse than first feared.

West Ham had hoped Bowen would return soon after releasing a statement which stated he did not suffer ‘significant damage’.

But according to The Athletic, Bowen now faces ‘a race against time’ to be available for the Europa League quarter-final clash against Lyon due to a fractured bone in his foot.

The Ligue 1 side will visit the London Stadium on April 7 before West Ham travel to France the following week.

Following the loss to Tottenham on Sunday, Moyes was asked if Vladimir Coufal and Bowen would be back after the international break.

He said: ‘I hope so, but I cannot guarantee it at the moment.

‘I think Vladimir is a little further down the line because we know what he had, an operation on his hernia and he is doing quite well. Jarrod I cannot be sure on.’

Bowen has been in brilliant form this season, with 12 goals and 11 assists in 39 appearances across all competitions.

England boss Gareth Southgate is thought to be an admirer of the forward but the injury halted Bowen’s chances of receiving a call up for the upcoming friendlies against Switzerland and Ivory Coast.

West Ham currently sit seventh in the Premier League and they will look to return to winning ways when they take on relegation threatened Everton on April 3.
