IOIG 2019: Madagascar (Men's team) and Maldives (Women's team) clinch gold medals in Table Tennis Double Finals

GIS 25 July, 2019: The Men’s team of Madagascar and the women’s team of the Maldives were crowned, yesterday, as the winners of the Table Tennis Double Finals held in the context of the Indian Ocean Islands Games 2019. The finals were held at the Centre National de Tennis de Table in Beau Bassin.
Mauritius played against Madagascar for the women’s third place while Mauritius was pitted against Madagascar for the men’s finals. For the women’s finals tournament, Maldives played against their own fellow countrymen, and the duo Dheema Ali/Aishath Nazim won against the duo Mueena Mohamed/Jumana Fathmath and scored 4-0. The stadium was packed as Mauritians and delegates of participating countries gathered to support the teams.
The Madagascar Teams won against Mauritius on a score of 4-2 after an intense match. Mauritian players Widaad Gukhool/Rukayyah Kinoo was defeated by Anjara Raharinarivo/Niantsa Randrianarisoa on a last score. Mauritius was hence crowned the third position.
As for the men’s tournament, after a tough match, Madagascar’s prolific players Jonathan Nativel/Stephen Ravonison won against their Mauritian opponents Brian Chan Yook Fo/Allan Arnachellum, sealing victory on a score of 4-3. For its part, Mayotte ended in the third place.
