Maurizio Sarri finds himself on the brink at Chelsea after Monday night’s FA Cup defeat by Manchester United, but his future isn’t the only one in doubt.
Marcos Alonso and Jorginho are among those who have underperformed this season, while Eden Hazard and Callum Hudson-Odoi are eyeing moves abroad.
Ahead of a huge summer transfer window, Sportsmail assesses every member of Chelsea’s first-team squad to decide who should be kept and who’s on their way out.
Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has a huge summer window ahead of him – if he’s still in charge
GOALKEEPERS
KEPA ARRIZABALGA
Still settling into English football after his world record transfer last summer. Has shown plenty of promise, but there’s room to improve.
Verdict: Keep
WILLY CABALLERO
Has provided solid cover for Chelsea’s No 1 since joining on a free transfer in 2017. Out of contract this summer but is worthy of an extra year.
Verdict: Keep
Kepa Arrizabalaga (left) is Chelsea’s No 1 goalkeeper, with Willy Caballero providing back-up
DEFENDERS
DAVID LUIZ
Capable of going from the ridiculous to the sublime in the space of 90 minutes. Still struggling for consistency at the age of 31 and out of contract this summer.
Verdict: Likely to leave
ANTONIO RUDIGER
A commanding presence at the back on his day. Has not covered himself in glory at times this season – particularly at the Etihad – but deserves another chance.
Verdict: Keep
David Luiz (left) is out of contract at the end of the season but Antonio Rudiger looks set to stay
CESAR AZPILICUETA
Slotted into the right back role with relative ease after starring in Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 formation. Chelsea’s most consistent defender.
Verdict: Keep
ANDREAS CHRISTENSEN
Fallen out of favour under Sarri this term and has failed to build on his breakthrough season. Still young and talented enough to be success at Stamford Bridge.
Verdict: Keep
DAVIDE ZAPPACOSTA
Didn’t appear to be a first-choice signing in 2017 and has done little to justify the club’s £25million outlay since. His place on the bench could be better utilised.
Verdict: Sell
Cesar Azpilicueta (left) is ahead of Davide Zappacosta for the right back role in Sarri’s squad
EMERSON PALMIERI
Another full back who has failed to shine since making the move to west London. Brought in to compete with Marcos Alonso, but has barely done that.
Verdict: Sell
GARY CAHILL
The club captain has hardly featured under Sarri this season and was left out of the travelling squad for last week’s Europa League trip to Malmo. Snubbed a move away in January to see out his contract until the summer.
Verdict: Likely to leave
MARCOS ALONSO
Shone as a left wing back in Conte’s 3-4-3 formation, but has struggled to make an impact in Sarri’s back-four. Arguably the club’s least effective player this season.
Verdict: Sell
Marcos Alonso (left) has struggled this season, while Gary Cahill has barely featured
MIDFIELDERS
JORGINHO
The key man in Sarri’s plan has had an up-and-down first season in England, dictating some games and letting others pass him by. Still too early to judge him properly, although a return to Serie A may be a consideration.
Verdict: Jury’s out
MATEO KOVACIC
Seems to come on for Ross Barkley – or start ahead of him – in almost every game. Looked bright early on in the season, but his form has dipped along with the rest of the squad. On loan from Real Madrid with no option to buy.
Verdict: Likely to leave
Jorginho (left) and Mateo Kovacic were both midfield recruits during last summer’s window
ROSS BARKLEY
Seems to finally be putting the injury troubles with have blighted his career behind him. Impressive in one game, but then anonymous the next. Needs to find more consistency and try to nail down a spot in the side.
Verdict: Jury’s out
N’GOLO KANTE
Unable to show off his best attributes in a more attacking midfield role under Sarri. Still works his socks off, but has not been anywhere near his best.
Verdict: Keep
DANNY DRINKWATER
Appears set to go down as one of the worst transfers in Chelsea’s history having failed to make any sort of impact since joining from Leicester for £35m.
Verdict: Sell
Ross Barkley appears to be over his injury troubles, while N’Golo Kante has a new position
RUBEN LOFTUS-CHEEK
Criminally underused by Sarri so far this season. Scored on his only Premier League start at Wolves and grabbed a Europa League hat-trick too. Needs more games.
Verdict: Keep
ETHAN AMPADU
Used sparingly by Sarri this term, which is understandable given he’s still only 18. One for the future, although a loan deal would aid his development.
Verdict: Keep
FORWARDS
EDEN HAZARD
Has all but admitted he wants to join Real Madrid this summer. Still the club’s best player, but they may have no option but to cash-in on him if he kicks up a fuss.
Verdict: Likely to leave
WILLIAN
Talented but incredibly inconsistent. The Brazilian has attracted serious interest from PSG and Barcelona despite turning 30 last year. A fresh start might be best for him – and Chelsea.
Verdict: Sell
OLIVIER GIROUD
Another who has failed to earn the trust of Sarri after struggling to put the ball in the back of the net. Out of contract this summer and unlikely to be offered a new deal.
Verdict: Likely to leave
Eden Hazard (left) and Olivier Giroud could both leave Chelsea at the end of the season
CALLUM HUDSON-ODOI
Wants to leave for Bayern Munich after being the subject of a £40m bid in January. Still not being given the minutes he craves despite a number of promising displays.
Verdict: Likely to leave
GONZALO HIGUAIN
On loan from AC Milan for the rest of the season. Netted a brace in only his third appearance, but will need hit top form for the rest of the season if he is to have any chance of securing a permanent move.
Verdict: Likely to leave
PEDRO
Doesn’t start every game, but always offers a threat down Chelsea’s right side. Likely to retain his place in the squad with or without Sarri at the helm next season.
Verdict: Keep
