Former England captain Chris Robshaw is on the verge of completing a trans-Atlantic transfer to San Diego Legion.

The 34-year-old is likely to join the California-based MLR franchise in 2021, following the completion of the current Premiership campaign with Harlequins.

Robshaw also visited rival owners at Rugby United New York about a potential move, however Sportsmail understands that deal has fallen through.

However, the flanker is still is expected to join the likes of Ben Foden, Drew Mitchell and Ma’a Nonu in the fledgling American competition, with San Diego now his most likely destination.

Robshaw, who has not played for England since 2018, will be given a farewell from the Stoop after extending his season for the remainder of the delayed Premiership campaign.

Speaking earlier this month, he said: ‘It’s great news personally to know I will have the chance to play my final game for my boyhood club.

‘The pandemic has affected so many aspects of so many peoples’ lives, I’m just grateful to the club for allowing me the opportunity to finish my final season with Harlequins.’
