‘Everyone would love to play for Liverpool’: Watford winger Ismaila Sarr opens the door to Anfield move this summer but admits he is ‘yet to make a choice’ about his future after Hornets were relegated

  • Watford’s Ismaila Sarr refused to rule out a move to Liverpool amid speculation
  • The Hornets were relegated last season and face interest in their top stars
  • Sarr arrived as their club-record signing from Rennes for £30m last summer
  • The winger said he was unsure about his future but admired Liverpool as a club

Watford winger Ismaila Sarr has hinted he could be interested in a move to Liverpool this summer with his future at Vicarage Road up in the air.

The Hornets have been relegated from the Premier League after five years and now the club face a battle to hold on to their top players – including Sarr, who arrived from Rennes for £30m in a club record deal last summer.

The Senegalese star has been linked with Manchester United, Crystal Palace and Jurgen Klopp’s men, the latter of which would see him link up with fellow countryman Sadio Mane.

‘Liverpool are a really great team, everyone would love to play there.’ he told Senegal outlet Les Echos, via Metro, after being quizzed on a possible move to Anfield.

‘They won the Premier League this year and the Champions League last year. But also there are great teams in the English league.

‘Frankly, I have yet to make a choice. If that were to happen, I just wish they were a good team. At the moment, there are only guesses.’

Sarr scored twice in a shock 3-0 win against the Premier League champions in February, so Klopp will already be familiar with his talents.

According to reports from the Sun, Watford won’t let Sarr go for anything less than the £30m they signed him for last year, with Crystal Palace also said to be among the interested parties in the player.

And Sarr insisted he remained committed to the club and would be happy to play Championship football next season if they rejected any offers for him.

‘I still have years of contract with Watford, another four years,’ he added.

‘If Watford want me to stay, I’ll play in the Championship, my departure also depends on them. I really don’t know what to say. We are going to play in the Championship since there is no transfer yet.

‘I’m at the same level of information as everyone else about these transfer rumours. Every day, like everyone else, I receive information like what I’m going to play for Liverpool, Manchester United etc.

‘But really, for the moment, we have not yet discussed it internally. I admit that there are other agents who talk to me about proposals from important teams, but for the moment, I stay quiet in my corner.

‘I continue my work and the rest, my agent and my team will take care of it. Because whatever happens, you need the backing of the club.’
