The event was organised by Partnering Robotics Ltd in collaboration with its two local partners, namely the State Investment Corporation and MCB Capital Markets. The Minister of Technology, Communication and Innovation, Mr Yogida Sawmynaden, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Partnering Robotics Ltd, Dr Ramesh Caussy, and other personalities were present at the ceremony.
The robot Diya One, conceived by Partnering Robotics Ltd which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Partnering Technologies S.A.S, a French-based company providing innovative solutions in Service Robotics and complementary domains, is an open platform which acts as a mobile Internet of Things (IoT) and can integrate with other applications in other areas such as big data management, energy efficiency, silver economy and security amongst others. Diya One is not a prototype but a real commercial product which has the CE marking.
On the occasion, Minister Sawmynaden said that the launching event comes at a time when Mauritius is embarking on the adoption of emerging technologies so to address its socio-economic challenges. Government, he added, will foster the development of new growth enablers such as IoT, Big Data and Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, the Blockchain and Augmented Reality.
He further expressed his appreciation regarding the delocalisation of some of Partnering Robotics Ltd’s AI activities in Mauritius, which establishes a solid AI ecosystem in the country. In the Partnering Robotics Innovation Centre, he stated, our graduates specialising in Computer Science, AI and Robotics will have an opportunity to develop their talent and art.
For his part, Dr Caussy recalled that Mauritius is geographically well positioned to become a technological hub and an incubator for the sub-Saharan African region. The most important contribution that AI will bring, he said, is efficiency in various sectors through public-private partnership. AI will also allow a much closer integration of the human-technology relationship and will enable people to perform more efficiently, enhance business models, improve quality of life and maintain a more ecological environment for future generations.
