Daniel Cormier looks ahead to ‘crazy’ trilogy fight with Stipe Miocic at UFC 252

Daniel Cormier has claimed his trilogy fight with Stipe Miocic at UFC 252 will determine the ‘greatest heavyweight of all time’ and insists he is already among the greats of the sport.

Saturday’s main event in Las Vegas between the two MMA legends promises to be one of the biggest heavyweight fights in history, as the pair face off for the third time and the heavyweight title.

Promoter Dana White has already claimed that the bout decides the crown of the division’s greatest of all time.

And the American agreed with the UFC president, admitting it will be his last goal in his decorated career is to be victorious on Saturday and be named as the division’s greatest.

He told ESPN: ‘There is one last thing to do, and that’s win back the UFC heavyweight championship from Stipe Miocic on Saturday. It just means everything to me.

‘The fight, the rivalry, the trilogy, it’s crazy for a guy who has been in so many big things like this to have a fight like this one at the tail end of his career.’

‘This fight allows me to have a chance to go out on top, a chance to be the champion again. 

The pair first fought when Cormier landed first-round knockout to secure two-division crowns

The pair first fought in July 2018 when then light-heavyweight champion Cormier moved up a classification to challenge the Croatian, landing a stunning first-round knockout to secure simultaneous crowns.

They met again for the title in 2019, with Miocic earning the KO in the fourth round to regain the crown, leaving fans desperate to see a deciding bout between the pair.

‘I believe this fight is to crown the best heavyweight fighter of all time’, Cormier added.

‘But I do believe that any time they make a short list of guys they consider the greatest fighters of all time, I have to be in the conversation.

‘That’s all you can really hope for — that your accomplishments stand tall next to anybody’s.
