Pressure continues to mount on Leicester City manager Claude Puel, and the Frenchman’s cause has not been aided this week after scathing comments from pundits Peter Schmeichel and Jamie Carragher.

Schmeichel, whose son plays in goal for Puel at Leicester, gave his view on the situation for Bein Sports, ahead of the Foxes’ crunch game against Tottenham.

Despite his son Kasper being the first choice stopper of Puel, Schmeichel admitted his belief that the Frenchman does not get the best out of his players.

‘Once they get their act together it’s actually not a bad club. They’ve got good players they just don’t have the manager who can get anything of out them,’ said Schmeichel.

‘Once that is sorted out we will see them in the eight to fifth place where I think they belong.’

The comments of the legendary Dane tie in with the recent opinion of fellow pundit Carragher who, when speaking on Sky Sports prior to Leicester kicking off at Spurs, admitted Puel’s days are numbered.

‘I think there is a big problem between the Leicester manager and the senior players in that team, it always feels like he’s one game away from being in real trouble because they’re on a really poor run at this moment,’ Carragher explained.

‘I actually think they’re the best side, when you look at the team and players, outside of the top six. Some times in some ways I admire the manager for making those big decisions.

‘He’s not scared to make them and if they get beat today with Vardy out the side he’s going to get more criticism form supporters. Listen, there’s no way he’s the manager next season. He could even go before the end of the season but he’s now bowing down to the players.’

Puel arrived in English football with Southampton after taking over from Ronald Koeman, but was axed by the club after just one year in charge despite guiding Saints to the Carabao Cup final.

Southampton also registered a respectable eighth place finish, though Puel was dismissed in favour of Mauricio Pellegrino.
