Christian’s Hakka Braised Duck with Taro. My ancestry is Hakka – meaning “guest family”. We were a tribe of nomads that found our way to the south from the north of China. The tribe has now scattered to all pets of the world and developed a plethora sub-dialects. My granddad found his way to Mauritius where he set up shop and met my Grandma (she was also Hakka but was born there). My grandparents had a great deal of love for us and my grandma had a handful of Hakka dishes she would cook for us when we went to visit. Duck was not a dish she cooked. This is what I would have cooked for her and my granddad.
