‘Bayern will be down 3-0 before they can say boo’: Rio Ferdinand insists PSG’s front three will take advantage of opponents’ high line if Hansi Flick doesn’t change his tactics for Champions League final after Lyon missed two glorious early chances
- Bayern Munich beat Lyon 3-0 in Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final
- Serge Gnabry scored twice while Robert Lewandowski netted a third late on
- But Lyon were dangerous on the break thanks to Bayern’s high defensive line
- Rio Ferdinand believes Paris Saint-Germain could hurt them in the final
- Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Angel Di Maria have impressed this past week
Rio Ferdinand believes Paris Saint-Germain‘s front line could punish Bayern Munich in the Champions League Final if the Bundesliga side continue to play a high line.
Hansi Flick’s side comfortably beat Lyon 3-0 in Wednesday’s semi-final but Bayern’s French opponents had several chances to take the lead in the opening exchanges of the game.
And Ferdinand claims that Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Angel Di Maria will punish the German champions if they continue with this strategy.
Rio Ferdinand says PSG’s front three can hurt Bayern Munich’s high-line defence on Sunday
Bayern beat Lyon 3-0 in Wednesday’s semi-final but their defence was regularly run ragged
The ex-England defender told BT Sport: ‘The way this Bayern team set up, pressing high to win the ball, they leave themselves wide open at the back.
‘We hammered Pep [Guardiola] for changing his tactics against Lyon but now we’re asking Flick to change things.
‘If Mbappe, Neymar and Di Maria get the chance Lyon got tonight, Bayern will be down 3-0 before they can say boo.’

While Bayern have managed to reach the final, they have not been as perfect defensively as their attack has been in recent games.
Jerome Boateng was put under so much intense pressure by Lyon’s strikers on Wednesday that he had to be hauled off at half-time.
David Alaba is a more reliable option at centre-back but his own-goal against Barcelona shows what can be done if top-quality attacks break through Bayern’s lines.
Niklas Sule is another option but has been struggling with an injury since October and would be a very brave choice at centre-back.

Meanwhile, PSG’s front three of Mbappe, Neymar and Di Maria have blown away teams since the Champions League restarted this month.
Neymar and Mbappe both made key assists in the quarter-final against Atalanta as the French champions scored either side of the 90-minute mark against the Italian side.
Di Maria, on the other hand, scored one and made two more as PSG thumped RB Leipzig 3-0 in Tuesday’s semi-final.
