‘I was out for two years with injury and I came back with more strength’: Carlo Ancelotti hopes to lead by example and inspire midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin to return better than ever for Everton after nightmare first season at Goodison Park

Carlo Ancelotti is hoping his own experiences with injuries can help Jean-Philippe Gbamin return stronger than ever after a nightmare first season at Everton.
The midfielder has made just two appearances for the Toffees since signing for a fee of £25million last summer.
The 24-year-old was first sidelined with a muscle injury in August. He finally returned to training ahead of the Premier League restart in June but was dealt another blow after rupturing his achilles.

But Ancelotti, who experienced his own injury troubles as a player, believes Gbamin will return to the first-team a stronger player.
‘After Jean-Philippe’s first injury, we were so glad when he came back and started training individually,’ the Italian told evertonfc.com.
‘He showed a good condition and we were really sad when he had this new problem. Now we hope he is going to be okay and in some time he will be ready again.

‘I hope for him this moment can help him be stronger and have even more character and personality.
‘This is what happened to me – I was out for two years with injury and I came back with more strength, more mental strength. This situation can help Gbamin to be a really strong man.’
Ancelotti missed the chance to play in European Cup final for Roma in 1984 but went on to win the trophy on two occasions with AC Milan in 1989 and 1990.

The manager said he is in regular contact with the midfielder and has assured him to take his time in recovery.
‘I have spoken with Jean-Philippe a lot,’ said Ancelotti.
‘We spent time talking. Some days he was not happy because of what happened, having another injury. Mentally it was difficult for him. I told him, “Don’t worry, take your time.”
‘For him, it is important to take time to recover well and comfortably. And of course, I will stay in touch with him.’
