‘It is everything you can ask for’: Alphonso Davies reacts to ‘amazing’ Champions League win… as his post-match interview is crashed by delighted Bayern Munich team-mates drenching him with water

Alphonso Davies was ambushed during a post-match interview as he was drenched in water after Bayern Munich won the Champions League title by beating Paris Saint-Germain in Sunday’s final.

The Canadian winger starred as the German champions completed a famous treble thanks to Kingsley Coman’s second-half header in the Lisbon showdown.

And when the 19-year-old full-back was fulfilling his media studies with BT Sport after the match, team-mates Joshua Zirzkee and Ron-Thorben Hoffmann interrupted the interview to throw water over Davies.

Before his soaking, Davies said: ‘It (the win) feels really good, it is what you dream of as a kid.

‘Growing up in cold Edmonton (in Canada) and coming to Europe and winning trophies with a great club like Bayern is everything you can ask for.’

Davies’ glory in Lisbon rounds off a fantastic story involving the teenager, who was born in a refugee camp in Ghana and played Major League Soccer in Canada with the Vancouver Whitecaps up until two years ago.

The left back has managed to win the Champions League in only his eighth match in the competition, a feat that Davies says is down to the power of the team.

He continued: ‘That goes to show that the team plays really well in the Champions League. Being able to get the opportunity to play is just amazing for me.

‘My story goes to show that if you set your mind to it you can do anything. I’m really happy that I’ve got the Champions League medal around my neck and the trophy sat by my side.

‘Yeah, coming to this club, we know that legends have won this title before. As a young kid you want to keep that tradition going.

‘Every young player is hungry to play and to win titles as they have seen their idols do it.’

Davies’ old club, Vancouver Whitecaps, congratulated their former player by posting a video on social media of him as a young kid talking about his career aspirations.

The Whitecaps captioned the video: ‘Follow your dreams, kids. You did it, @AlphonsoDavies’.
