Barcelona are moving to secure Sergi Roberto on a new deal and will trigger extensions to Riqui Puig and Oscar Mingueza’s contracts.

Roberto and Barcelona are yet to reach an agreement over a fresh contract for the 29-year-old full-back but it is expected to happen in due course.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Roberto, Puig and Mingueza are all expected to stay at the club, with the latter duo seeing a clause triggered to take them to 2023.

Romano says that Roberto may also sign for another two years and the LaLiga giants are confident about reaching consensus with all three players.

The trio graduated from Barcelona’s famed La Masia youth system and it is important for the club to maintain a strong connection with the academy.

Roberto has helped Barcelona to six LaLiga titles, two Champions Leagues and five Copa del Rey triumphs.

He can be deployed at right-back or in midfield but has injuries this season meant he lost his place in defence to Sergino Dest.

Mingueza, 21, is seen as one for the future and has also played right-back in addition to centre-back. His performances under Ronald Koeman have led the hierarchy to believe he deserves a fresh long-term deal.

And Puig,21, has long been seen as an academy graduate who can make it at the top. The gifted midfield player has made 11 LaLiga appearances and played four times in the Champions League.

With Barcelona riddled with debt, big money signings are off the table this summer, meaning an increased importance being given to securing their existing young talents to drive the club forward.
