Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has emerged as Barcelona’s ‘impossible dream’.

The England striker is attracting interest from the Nou Camp, according to reports in Spain.

But the Catalan giants are realistic that any attempt to prise him from Old Trafford would cost in excess of €100m (£87m), according to Mundo Deportivo.

Rashford has no release clause, complicating any prospect of a deal and driving up the price.

After toiling under Jose Mourinho the 21-year-old has become a key fixture since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took charge in December.

He has scored six goals up front and has usurped Romelu Lukaku as the focal point of the United attack.

Rashford is considered ‘non-transferable’ by the club, according to the report in the Spanish newspaper.

With Luis Suarez 32 and fears that he is on the decline, and a return for Neymar increasingly unlikely, Barcelona’s reported interest becomes clear.

It comes after reports this week that Rashford was set to sign a new six-year Manchester United deal.

There has been a breakthrough in negotiations and Rashford is prepared to sign a new contract running until the summer of 2025, according to The Mirror.

The reported new deal would see him earn around £200,000-a-week.

Rashford’s current contract runs until 2020, although there is an option for a further year.

The report indicates that Rashford had doubts over his future at Old Trafford while Mourinho was in charge, but is now much happier.

Rashford rose to prominence when he made his debut under Louis van Gaal in 2016.

He has gone on to make 155 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 42 goals and become a full England international.
