Barcelona eye move for Atletico Madrid veteran Filipe Luis as cover for Jordi Alba

Barcelona have identified Atletico Madrid left back Filipe Luis as a back-up option to Jordi Alba. 

The experienced Atletico defender will become a free agent at the end of the season and is able to negotiate with clubs. 

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan club view the 33-year-old left back as a ‘perfect fit’.

Filipe Luis is to become a free agent this summer and Barcelona are interested 

Juventus are also keen on Luis and the player has left his agent to work out the best possible deal with any suitors. 

Barcelona want to develop their promising 18-year-old left back Juan Miranda but do not view Luis as an obstacle, rather an experienced head to have around and still contribute. 

Despite being in the twilight of his career Luis has been a fixture in Diego Simeone’s side this season. 

The Brazilian is 33 but is still highly regarded and has been crucial for Atletico Madrid

He played a key role in Atletico’s 2-0 victory over Juventus in their Champions League last-16 first leg on Wednesday. 

There has been interest in Luis from the Catalan side although a transfer never quite materialised. 

On two occasions he came close, particularly in 2009 but Maxwell was brought in from Inter Milan but it seems he has another chance to move to the Nou Camp this summer.
