Arsenal have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain wonderkid Adil Aouchiche after he reportedly told the French club he wants to leave in the summer.

Mikel Arteta is a big admirer of the 17-year-old attacking midfielder, and wants him to join his youth revolution in north London.

PSG, meanwhile, are desperate for him to stay after bringing him through to the first team this season, but RMC report that he has told the Ligue 1 champions that he wants to leave to further his progression.

Aouchiche has made three appearances for Thomas Tuchel’s first team this season after breaking through from the academy, and unless he signs a professional contract at PSG will be available on the cheap.

That will suit Arteta and Arsenal, who are desperate to improve their squad this summer without having to shell out huge transfer fees for new players.

It is reported that the Gunners face plenty of competition in their bid to sign the youngster though, with St-Etienne hot on their heels.

And Arsenal fear that the French club’s history of developing young talent – with both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Blaise Matuidi enjoying impressive spells there in their early years – will swing the pendulum away from them.

Aouchiche is understood to demand wages of around £22,000 a week, while a signing-on fee is likely to be in the region of £3.6million.

Arsenal endured a disastrous restart to the Premier League season on Saturday after falling to a late 2-1 defeat away at struggling Brighton.
