Alan Pardew’s eight year Newcastle contract would have ended TODAY

Former Newcastle manager Alan Pardew would have finally reached the end of his eight-year deal with the Magpies today.

The 58-year-old was far from popular during his time at St James’ Park and many supporters often called for his sacking – as a website called sackpardew.com quickly ramped up support.

But the former West Ham boss was rewarded for guiding the Magpies to a fifth-placed finish in the 2011-12 campaign and swiftly handed the lengthy new deal – with his backroom staff also offered the same terms.

He initially signed a five-and-a-half year deal when he succeeded Chris Hughton in 2010 but his tenure eventually descended into chaos with supporters unfurling banners at the stadium crying out for his dismissal.

The club went on to finish 16th and 10th in the following seasons, but despite the team struggling in mid-table once again, he was spared from an official sacking and was allowed to join Crystal Palace in 2014-15 after four years on Tyneside.

Fans have taken the opportunity to ‘celebrate’ the end of the long-term deal, with one joking that Newcastle should ‘offer him another eight years’.

He has since managed three clubs, including West Brom where he was sacked after poor form

Another sarcastically added that it was ‘one of the many genius decisions’ by owner Mike Ashley, and one listed the key events that have taken place since he signed the contract in 2012.

The standout 2011-12 season saw Pardew named Premier League manager of the season and was also given League Managers Association Manager of the Year – becoming the first English manager to win both awards in a single season.

Since leaving Newcastle, he has an unwanted record of winning 58 of his 183 league games. He galvanised Palace for just a short period and was sacked in December 2016. He had won just six out of 36 in that calendar year.

He was bombarded by ADO Den Haag fans as they used a clipboard to criticise his tactics  

The following year he was handed another chance in the Premier League with strugglers West Brom. Things could hardly have gotten worse after Tony Pulis was dismissed with the club bottom of the table, but he oversaw eight straight losses.

This year he tried to reboot his managerial career by heading over to Holland with ADO Den Haag – another side battling the drop in the Eredivisie. But he won just once in eight games and was subject to an embarrassing lecture on his tactics by fans who invaded his training session.

As the season was null and voided due to the coronavirus, ADO Den Haag were kept in the division as officials opted against relegating any teams, but the club still decided to release him from his deal, along with assistant Chris Powell.
