North Melbourne coach David Noble will be SACKED today after Kangaroos slumped to 14 losses in a row in their second straight season from hell – as Brownlow winner pinpoints the last straw that led to exit

  • Noble reportedly told colleagues on Monday that he will be leaving the club
  • Announcement of his departure is expected today after horror run of form
  • Noble took over Kangaroos in 2021 and led them to the wooden spoon that year

David Noble will step down as coach of North Melbourne on Tuesday after the club decided to sack him due to a shocking run of losses that have left the Kangaroos nailed to the bottom of the table.

Noble told colleagues and close friends of the decision on Monday night, according to SEN radio

The Kangaroos currently only have won win from 16 games this year and have suffered 14 straight losses while averaging just 10 goals in those defeats.

Noble’s treatment of players has also been put under scrutiny this year, with the coach taking the extraordinary step of apologising to his players after giving them an intense verbal spray after their big loss to Brisbane in May.

The 55-year-old took over as Kangaroos coach in November 2020, leading the club to the wooden spoon in 2021 after they finished second last the season before.

The former Fitzroy player is known for his tough, confrontational coaching style. He’ll be replaced by North development and VFL coach Leigh Adams in the interim while the club searches for a permanent replacement.

Ex-Hawks premiership winner Alastair Clarkson is available but there are doubts he’d want to coach a club in the Kangaroos’ position, and the team has also been linked to West Coast’s Adam Simpson.

Soon after the news broke, Brownlow medalist Adam Cooney said one Noble decision might have been the last straw for his time with the club.

‘Playing (No.1 draft pick Jason) Horne-Francis in the VFL last week might have been the nail in the coffin,’ he said on SEN radio.

SEN also reported that some players had told the club they would look at leaving the team after this season if Noble wasn’t sacked.

North are currently in the middle of a club review being conducted by veteran footy administrator Geoff Walsh, who was brought in as an advisor amid calls for the team to be relocated to Tasmania due partly to their dismal run of form.

Last week sensational emails from rich Kangaroos backer Adrian Kinderis to CEO Ben Amarfio were leaked, with the former begging the club to take action.

Kinderis was scathing of coach David Noble’s appointment, with the mentor winning just five of his 37 games in charge and overseeing a 112-point thrashing by Geelong just before the exchange became public.

‘The CEO and executive team that installed the current coaching regime have to be held accountable for the current state of the club,’ Kinderis wrote in his email.

‘Sorry Ben (Amarfio), you gotta go and take the club president (Sonya Hood) with you – anyone that backed this experiment that was called wrong at the time and has been wrong ever since needs to be held accountable.’

North had one of their best games of the season against Collingwood on Saturday, pushing the in-form Magpies all the way before losing by just seven points.
