In a statement, the Minister of Tourism spoke about the importance of finding appropriate solutions, along with stakeholders, to implement a more secure boat system for the region.  Mauritians, he added, are very keen to undertake activities at sea and Trou d’Eau Douce, already endowed with a fish landing station, is a very popular place for such activities.

Government, the Minister assured, will make provision for appropriate measures to address issues related to the setting up of safer Embarkation Points across Mauritius.  The aim is to better protect boaters and fishermen and ensure an appropriate boat system for all, he emphasised.

Furthermore, Mr Gayan highlighted that currently three solutions are being examined at the level of the Ministry of Tourism to implement a safer boat system.  He reassured stakeholders present that their recommendations will be taken on board along with appropriate decisions for the benefit of everyone.

The Minister also recalled that every boater who is a holder of a boat license is provided with a specific embarkation point according to prevailing regulations.  Thus, he appealed to boaters to adhere strictly to their allocated points of embarkation.
