Jason Roy must see through a 12-month good behaviour bond or face a two-match international ban after admitting an unspecified breach of the ECB’s code of conduct.

The 2019 World Cup winner was fined £2,500 and suspended for the next two England matches for which he is available – only to come into force if he transgresses again over the next year – by a disciplinary panel.

Roy, 31, accepted that he had conducted himself in a manner prejudicial to the game during the hearing.

It was a breach of ECB’s directive 3.3 which relates to behaviour and states: ‘No participant may conduct themself in a manner or do any act or omission at any time which is improper or which may be prejudicial to the interests of cricket or which may bring the ECB, the game of cricket or any cricketer or group of cricketers into disrepute.’

The England limited-overs star is currently on an indefinite break after pulling out of his £195,000 Indian Premier League deal with Gujarat Titans, citing bubble fatigue following a successful stint at the Pakistan Super League in which he averaged over 50 with the bat.

Earlier this year, he returned from the torn calf that ended his Twenty20 World Cup prematurely last autumn by smashing a 36-ball hundred in a warm-up win in Barbados.

He then hit 130 runs across the series as an under-strength England lost 3-2 against the West Indies.

Surrey have confirmed that they do not expect him to feature in the early stages of the 2022 season following his IPL withdrawal.

Neither the club nor ECB would comment on the nature of Roy’s offence.
