On Saturday, Archer ejoyed a boat cruise with Gayle and friends, including other West Indies players such as Fidel Edwards and Sulieman Benn.

Archer and Co were seen sunning themselves, eating and drinking on the boat and also taking a dip in the water.

On a slightly overcast day in the Caribbean, the England fast bowler was in good company and fans will no doubt be looking forward to seeing him back in action.

The England Test side are playing West Indies at the moment and the first two matches have resulted in draws.

Archer shot to prominance for England in the ODI World Cup win in 2019 and impressed in the Ashes in the same year.

But injury has since blighted his career and he underwent a second surgery on his elbow at the end of last year.

He has not played for England in any format of the game since the T20 series against India last March. The fast bowler is likely to be eased back into competitive cricket and he is expected to play in The Hundred this summer.

England badly need the paceman back and firing as they prepare for the next chapter for the Test team having left Jimmy Anderson and Stuard Broad at home for the West Indies series with one eye on the future.

Archer’s friend Gayle, also known as ‘Universe Boss’, now 42, hinted at retirement at the end of last year but then said he wanted to play in another World Cup.

He is one of the most destructive opening batsmen of all time, regarded by some as the greatest ever in T20.
