Republic of Mauritius- Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Africa and The Sudans discusses AGOA with PM

GIS – 03 May, 2019: The Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Africa and The Sudans, Ms Makila James, paid a courtesy call, this afternoon, on the Prime Minister, Minister of Home Affairs, External Communications and National Development Unit and Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, at the New Treasury Building in Port Louis.

Discussions focused on the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), the reinforcement of trade and investment between Mauritius and the other parts of the African continent, and the good performance of Mauritius.

In a statement, Ms James, who is on her first visit to Mauritius expressed satisfaction regarding the constructive and positive outcome of the discussions she had with the Prime Minister on issues pertaining to trade and investment.

She further stated that both parties have agreed to strengthen bilateral relations and work in collaboration in areas of mutual interest for Mauritius and the United States. Ms James also lauded Mauritius for its proactive engagement vis-à-vis the AGOA and encouraged the country to take full advantage of it by reinforcing the programme while tapping into new spheres of cooperation.
