Tottenham ‘will target Brendan Rodgers if Leicester fail to qualify for the Champions League’

Tottenham will reportedly make another attempt to hire Brendan Rodgers as their new manager if Leicester fail to qualify for the Champions League on Sunday.

Liverpool‘s victory over Burnley on Wednesday night saw the Foxes drop out of the top four for the first time since December, meaning their fate is no longer in their own hands going into the final day.

According to The Sun, Rodgers is still Daniel Levy’s first choice to replace Jose Mourinho but the Spurs chairman feared he would not be able to tempt the Northern Irishman if Leicester secured Champions League football.

But Levy is reportedly now desperate for Spurs to shatter the Foxes’ top four bid when the two teams play each other at the King Power Stadium on Sunday.  

Leicester missed out Champions League qualification on the final day of last season and risk suffering the same fate for a consecutive campaign.

They are level on points with Liverpool but four goals worse off while Chelsea are a point ahead of them both in third.

Spurs, who sit in seventh, need to win and hope West Ham lose in order to secure a place in the Europa League.

Finishing seventh would see them drop into the newly formed Europa Conference League. 

However, Spurs could also miss out on Europe entirely as Everton are level on 59 points while rivals Arsenal are only one behind on 58.  

Rodgers, who led Leicester to their first FA Cup last weekend, has four years left to run on his contract.

The 48-year-old pledged his commitment to the Foxes when he was first linked with the Spurs job in April.
