Xavi Hernandez reportedly rejected the chance to manage Borussia Dortmund and the Brazilian national team as he continues to be linked with a return to Barcelona.

The former Spanish midfielder is currently in charge of Qatari side Al-Sadd and recently signed a new two-year contract to stay put.

Xavi has been constantly linked with the Barcelona job should Ronald Koeman be sacked this summer after an underwhelming season for the Spanish giants.

Brazil wanted Xavi to be Tite's No 2 at next year's World Cup before taking over the main job

Dortmund wanted him to take charge now while Brazil wanted him to take over next year

Last weekend Catalan newspaper ARA claimed Barca president Joan Laporta and the club’s board have even scheduled a meeting with Xavi this week to negotiate the terms for his return.

Xavi has been enjoying a holiday in Catalonia after the conclusion of the Qatari season, in which he won two more trophies.

But it appears Barcelona are not the only club interested in hiring the 41-year-old with Dortmund making Xavi a ‘very interesting offer’ to coach the Bundesliga giants for three years, according to Spanish newspaper AS.

Dortmund were looking for a new permanent boss following the sacking of Lucien Favre in December, with interim boss Edin Terzic currently in charge.

The Bundesliga side have since appointed Borussia Monchengladbach coach Marco Rose, who will take over at the end of the season.

However, the Dortmund vacancy was not the only job offered to Xavi in recent weeks before he penned fresh terms with Al-Sadd.

The Brazilian Football Federation also reportedly made contact with him to discuss the possibility of being Tite’s assistant at next year’s World Cup in Qatar.

The plan was for Xavi to then become Brazil’s manager once Tite stepped down. But it’s claimed he swiftly rejected both offers because he’s happy in Qatar and is only interested in the Barcelona job.

Xavi has long been touted as the future coach at the Nou Camp after a successful start to life in management following his appointment as the Qatari outfit’s manager in 2019.

Sportsmail reported this week that Xavi was Barcelona president Joan Laporta’s first choice to replace Koeman, with the club supremo yet to back him as the man to lead them into next season.

Current boss Koeman’s future is in doubt with Barca’s hopes of winning the LaLiga title finally coming to an end after defeat by Celta Vigo on Sunday night.

It has been a hugely underwhelming campaign for the Catalan side despite their Copa del Rey triumph.

A capitulation in the final few LaLiga games has seen them slide out of title contention and they were dumped out of the Champions League by PSG

Laporta has since warned that major changes will be made at the club with decisions taken as early as next week.

‘A cycle has come to an end and we are working on a renewal process,’ Laporta said at a Diario Sport event.

‘From next week, you will see several decisions which must be taken. We have to work hard to build a competitive team to win league titles and Champions Leagues.

‘When I speak of a cycle coming to an end or about renovation work, it’s because it’s what I believe must be done.

‘We won the Copa del Rey, which we are proud of, but we were knocked out of the Champions League early and have lost La Liga incomprehensibly from my point of view.’
