  • Lingard is on loan from Man United after falling out of favour at Old Trafford
  • The 28-year-old’s return to form has given him hope of a Euro spot with England

Jesse Lingard’s sensational form for West Ham has been rewarded after the on-loan Man United star was named Premier League’s Player of the Month for April.

The 28-year-old has resurrected his faltering career at the London Stadium with some superb performances under David Moyes since joining in the Janury transfer window, and a special month in April saw him net four times in four games.

It marks a complete turnaround for the England international, who had played just three games in all competition for United before being shipped off to east London – and now looks a shoo-in for Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2020 squad after his string of inspiring displays.

The Premier League announced Lingard’s award on Twitter, writing: ‘Doing the business in Claret and Blue. @jesselingard is your @EASportsFIFA Player of the Month for April.’

Last month’s prize was given to Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho after his electric form and stunning run of goals as he netted five times in just three outings.

But April belonged to Lingard – who was already earning plenty of admirers with his creative force in the middle of a rejuvenated Hammers side.

Lingard, who has bagged nine goals in 13 games for the London outfit, started off his run with a goal and an assist in West Ham’s 3-2 away win at Wolves on April 5.

The pick of the bunch arguably arrived at Molineux as he drove fowards with the ball and feinted to pass to Michail Antonio before barging his way past two Wolves players and slotting home.

In the following game he backed that up with a brace on April 11 as his crucial presence secured another 3-2 victory over high-flying Leicester.

And despite a below-par display against Newcastle on April 17, this time in a 3-2 defeat, he managed to haul his side level from the spot after going 2-0 down, before the Magpies pulled off a last-minute winner.

Sportsmail reported this week that West Ham are keen to sign Lingard permanently but could miss out on his signature due to the midfielder’s salary demands.

With West Ham recording losses of £65million last season due to the pandemic, the club are unable to commit to the player’s demands for a four-year contract worth in excess of £100,000-a-week.

Lingard has one final year on his deal at Old Trafford and could return to his boyhood club to fulfil it. One United player who would be delighted to see him back at the club is Bruno Fernandes, who hailed him as ‘the best player in the Premier League’ in the last ten games.

‘If you see Jesse, I think Jesse, at the moment, if you watch the last 10 games, has been top, top, top level,’ he told MUTV.

‘For me, if you watch the last 10 games, he’s been the best player in the Premier League, scoring and assists in every game.

‘Everyone here is really, really happy for him. He has confidence back, he has his swag back, because he is feeling confident. We are really, really happy for what he’s doing.’
