The Minister of Housing and Lands, Mr Purmanund Jhugroo, was replying, today, to a Parliamentary Question, at the National Assembly, with regard to the number of social housing units constructed and delivered, region-wise and category-wise, since May 2018 till date.
The Minister stated that the construction of 2 421 housing units is ongoing, out of which 458 units are expected to be completed by end of June 2019. According to him, 528 units will be completed by end of December 2019 and the remaining 1 435 units by June 2020, which makes it to a total of 4 400.
Since May 2018, Mr Jhugroo added, 357 housing units have been constructed by the National Housing Development Co (NHDC) Ltd to the tune of some Rs 461 million in the following regions: Flacq (91), Savanne (18), Pamplemousses (32), Plaine Wilhems (164) and Grand Port (52).
With regard to the category of housing units, the Minister emphasised that NHDC Ltd is constructing decent housing units of different types and models and the same housing units are being allocated to the beneficiaries of different income category, including 10% reserved for NEF beneficiaries.
