McInnes has also helped develop players and brought in large transfer fees bringing in millions for the Pittodrie side.

He further endeared himself to Aberdeen fans back in 2017 when turning down the chance to take the helm at Rangers.

McInnes enjoyed plenty of good favour with the Dons having won them their first trophy in two decades back in 2014 but his relationship with Cormack has been strained this term.

Aberdeen are currently fourth in the Scottish Premiership table, three points behind third-placed Hibernian but having scored just once in their last nine games.

They are on a poor run of form winning only two matches of their previous ten.

The club will now begin a search for a new boss to take the helm and aim for a top three finish this season.
