Dan Evans becomes last British star to crash out of the US Open singles draw after suffering second round defeat to Corentin Moutet in four sets

Dan Evans has become the latest British player to fall at the US Open after suffering a defeat against Corentin Moutet which scuppered his dreams of reaching the third round.

Evans resumed the rain-delayed clash against his French opponent in the hopes of easing into the next stage for the fourth time, but the tempestuous star was left ruing missed opportunities.  

Despite moving into a 4-1 lead in the third-set tie-break, Evans slipped to an exit across four gruelling sets.

The British no 1 suffered defeat to Corentin Moutet in the second round at Flushing Meadows

Moutet fought back superbly to take the third set and then capitalised on his momentum to take the fourth all the way to a tie-break despite trailing 4-1.

The 21-year-old sealed a 4-6 6-3 7-6 (7-5) 7-6 (6-1) win, eliminating the final British player from the singles draw in the process.
