Former England, Aston Villa and Manchester City star Gareth Barry retires aged 39… and hangs up his boots as the Premier League’s all-time record appearance holder with an incredible 653 top flight games
The Premier League’s record appearance holder Gareth Barry has officially retired from football at the age of 39.
Barry, who played an astonishing 653 times in the Premier League, featured for the likes of Aston Villa, Manchester City, Everton and West Brom during a distinguished career.
During his long-serving career in the top-flight, Barry netted 53 goals and produced 64 assists.

The midfielder also featured 53 times for England between 2000 and 2012, scoring three goals in total.
The 39-year-old started off his senior career at Villa back in 1998, playing 432 matches for the club before departing for City in a £12million deal in 2009.
After moving to the Etihad, Barry went on to make 175 appearances for City, netting eight times and producing 18 assists.
And it was at the Etihad where Barry enjoyed most of his success, lifting the Premier League during the 2011-12 season and the FA Cup in 2011.
