I am a Dietitian: Do I eat desserts? Do I eat out?

Very often I find my patients perplexed and all curious about my lifestyle as a dietitian. Many think dietitians eat only salads, quinoa, fruits and vegetables. Is it true?

Well I cannot really tell about others, but I certainly enjoy a slice of chocolate cake or a good take out occasionally.

⚖️ To be able to enjoy such foods, in moderation, I believe it is important to understand the concept of ‘Healthy Eating’. Life is all about balance, and so should be our food habits.

🥦 On majority of the days I eat wholegrain cereals like quinoa, chapatti or whole wheat pasta, unsaturated fats, more than 5 servings of fruits and vegetables, a bowl of salad at lunch and dinner, lean proteins like chickpeas, lentils, eggs, fish, peanut butter and unprocessed foods. My beverages are mainly water, black coffee and green tea. And I also exercise everyday. 🏃‍♀️

🍫 And that is why I can allow myself to enjoy a slice of cake or a portion of chicken bryani. That small amount of refined sugar or chocolate will not make me fat and will not undo all the ‘clean eating' which I follow regularly. So do treat yourself, without any guilt, every now and then. What’s important is to eat in moderation and occasionally.

When you have a good quality diet, in the long run you learn to control your way of eating without being obsessed about it.

Learn how foods affect your body and health so that you can make the right choices.
And the next time you are invited to a party, enjoy the food without harboring any guilt….That’s what I do. 🙂
