I am heartbroken about the oil spill in Mauritius and angry at the damage humans are doing to the ocean, whether by design or by accident. The environmental crisis facing our island is a tragedy – this fragile and delicate ecosystem, once broken, can never be fully repaired.
I am also frustrated that I can’t do more to help, as I am in Rodrigues for the Walk Rodrigues project. But despite the distance, we can all still play our part. I have donated equipment to help with the clean up and contributed to the clean up fund. When I return to Mauritius, I will be volunteering in any way I can.
Although I am looking forward to sharing the stories from Rodrigues, right now our focus should be on the tragedy unfolding on our coastline, so I’ve decided not to share these stories until I return to Mauritius.
If there is anything you can do to help save our ocean, I would very much encourage you to get involved. The efforts of the people of Mauritius have been inspiring and uplifting. As a nation we can overcome this tragedy if we work together to replace what has been lost, and protect what remains for future generations. 🙏
