Son Heung-min has won the Premier League Goal of the Season award for his sensational solo effort against Burnley in December.

The Tottenham star picked up the ball inside his own half before sprinting past six players to calmly finish past Nick Pope in the Clarets goal.

The South Korean winger dribbled approximately 90 yards in only 11 seconds, the second-longest distance travelled by a player to score a goal in a Premier League match, capping of a superb bit of skill in the first half.

Spurs were already 2-0 up before Son went on his winding run to secure a third, completing a fabulous 5-0 home win over Sean Dyche’s men.

‘As soon as I got the ball, I tried to find a pass and I was a bit lucky. I dribbled into the space where no one was,’ Son said of his goal in December.

‘I tried to finish it well because the action before was really quick. I was really focused on my finishing. It was an amazing feeling.’

Son beat nine other candidates to the award, including a Bruno Fernandes goal and two Kevin De Bruyne strikes, while his effort also won December’s Premier League Goal of the Month prize.

Mourinho heaped huge amounts of praise on Son for his goal after the game, comparing him to Ronaldo Nazario, saying his effort reminded him of a goal scored by the Brazilian for Barcelona against Compostela in 1996.

‘Even before this goal my son called him Sonaldo,’ said the Tottenham boss after the game.

‘And today he was Sonaldo Nazario. The only goal that came to my mind was when I had the honour to be sitting next to Sir Bobby Robson when Ronaldo Nazario scored a goal very similar.’

Arsenal legend Ian Wright, who was among the panel experts voting on the goal of the season, said: ‘Few players in the world could have picked the ball up on the edge of their own penalty area, beat half the opposition team and then finished as calmly and precisely as Son did.

‘He showed so much awareness, speed and skill to beat the Burnley midfield and defence. It’s a goal fit to win the award.’
