Manchester United ‘one of several Premier League clubs after Juventus winger Douglas Costa’ as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks for alternatives to Jadon Sancho after missing Dortmund’s deadline for England star

  • Andrea Pirlo’s arrival as Juventus manager means several players will be sold
  • The Serie A champions are set to let go five star players including Douglas Costa
  • Reports in Italy say Manchester United are after the 29-year-old Brazilian winger
  • Sami Khedira, Blaise Matuidi, Alex Sandro and Mattia De Sciglio could also leave

Manchester United are keen on signing Juventus winger Douglas Costa, as the Serie A champions prepare an exodus of first-team stars, according to reports.

The Brazilian winger failed to make an impression on former Juventus boss Maurizio Sarri, starting just six league games all season as the Old Lady retained their Scudetto title.

The Turin side confirmed the appointment of Andrea Pirlo as the club’s new manager last week following Sarri’s sacking and Juventus are preparing wide-scale exits as a result.

And according to Tuttosport, Costa is one of five players set to be sold by the Turin side this summer with Manchester United having a strong interest in the 29-year-old’s signature.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are currently trying to get a deal for Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho over the line, though the Red Devils appeared to have missed the August 10 deadline to complete proceedings.

The report also says that midfield duo Blaise Matuidi and Sami Khedira are also set to be moved on this summer as Pirlo plans a rejuvenation of the Juventus squad.

Reports in Italy state that Khedira’s contract could be terminated by mutual consent, while World Cup winner Matuidi has been linked with a move to David Beckham’s MLS franchise Inter Miami.

Meanwhile, one or two full-backs could end up leaving the Serie A champions, with Brazilian defender Alex Sandro and Mattia De Sciglio most likely to leave.

Costa joined Juventus from Bayern Munich in 2017 on an initial loan deal, before completing a £32million move from the German side a year later.

However, since making the move to Turin permanent in 2018, the Brazilian has scored just two Serie A goals and registered six assists since then.

He fared slightly better in Germany, scoring 14 goals in 77 matches for the Bayern Munich after completing a £22million from Ukranian side Shakhtar Donetsk.

Meanwhile, Alex Sandro and Khedira have both been at Juventus for five years and played instrumental roles in Massimilano Allegri’s title-winning squads.

Matuidi and De Sciglio also joined at the same time in 2017 and while the Frenchman was a first-team regular, the latter was used sparingly by both Allegri and Sarri.
