Copp-er load of that! Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne show off Manchester City’s new ‘black and copper’ away kit – with the design inspired by a canal bridge

  • Manchester City have launched their new away kit for the 2020-21 season
  • The kit is black with a dark blue pattern of a symbolic bridge in Manchester
  • The new City jersey also comes with black shorts and dark blue socks
  • City stars Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne took time out to model the kit

Manchester City and Puma released the club’s new away kit for the 2020-21 season on Monday morning.

The black away kit contains a pattern of the bridge near Bridgwater Canal in Castlefield, an area which the club say is ‘symbolic’ of Manchester.

First-team stars Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne were seen trying on the new jersey during a kit launch.

David Bremond, Head of Teamsport Licensed Apparel, said: ‘With this kit we wanted to celebrate the culture of the city.

‘We looked for places where people come together to explore their creativity through art and music. Castlefield is rich with history and significance to the city; it truly connects with cultural youth scene and creative roots.

‘The bridge over the canal is an iconic design, which inspired us to bring this classic structure to life through the pattern and the color palette of the new jersey.

‘We wanted the jersey to feel special and unique to fans, and celebrate Manchester’s rich culture.’

Manchester City released their new home kit for the 2020-21 season last month, with the shirt in their traditional blue and white colours.

The front of the home shirt includes a white mosaic pattern, with the back of the shirt all blue.

The 2020-21 campaign is the club’s second season wearing Puma kits, after the club ditched Nike in early 2019 to take up a £65million-a-year deal with the German sports manufacturer.

City’s kit deal is the third most expensive in the Premier League, behind Liverpool’s £80m-a-year agreement with Nike and Manchester United’s £75m-a-year deal with adidas.

Manchester City will be hoping to regain their Premier League crown after losing the league to Liverpool in the 2019-20 season.

Pep Guardiola’s side were knocked out of the FA Cup semi-finals by Arsenal but did manage to win the League Cup thanks to a 2-1 final win over Aston Villa in March.

City could go on and win this season’s Champions League, which resumes when the Premier League club take on Real Madrid in the last-16 second-leg this week.
