‘Half a season, one trophy. Poch – six years, zero!’: Arsenal fans troll Tottenham and Mauricio Pochettino after Mikel Arteta crowns his early days as Gunners boss with FA Cup glory over Chelsea at Wembley

  • Arsenal fans were quick to make fun of Tottenham after their 14th FA Cup win
  • They beat Chelsea 2-1 at Wembley to claim Mikel Arteta’s first trophy in charge
  • Arteta is the first to win the competition as both Arsenal player and manager
  • Mauricio Pochettino failed to pick up any silverware in his five years at Spurs

Arsenal fans could not resist making a dig at their rivals Tottenham after Mikel Arteta got his hands on his first piece of silverware as the boss.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a first-half penalty and provided a second in the 67th minute to see Arsenal win 2-1 the FA Cup final against Chelsea on Saturday.

The result led to Arsenal fans poking fun at rival Tottenham’s former boss Mauricio Pochettino after he failed to win a trophy during his five-year spell in charge of Spurs – which ended last November.

One fan wrote: ‘How can Arteta basically surpass Poch’s legacy in like half a season’s worth of coaching in his 1st ever job?’

While another comment read: ‘Poch not winning a trophy whilst having the best Spurs team in decades, whilst it took eight months for Arteta to take Arsenal’s worst team in 30 years to a trophy.’

Some fans even pulled former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson into the equation, telling Tottenham fans to ‘stop acting’ like Pochettino is among the same calibre of managers as ‘Fergie’.

Pochettino left Tottenham just 12 games into the 2019-20 campaign, as they sat 14th in the Premier League table on 14 points.

Following Tottenham’s 3-1 win over Leicester City in February 2019, Pochettino came under fire as his side went on to win just six times in 24 matches in the English top flight. The Argentinian manager led Spurs to the Champions League final but suffered a five-game winless run in the league this season and was dismissed.

Meanwhile Artetea – won the FA Cup twice with Arsenal as a player – picked up his first piece of silverware as a manger despite only being in charge for half a season.

Having taken over from Unai Emery in December, Arteta is the first person to both captain and manage Arsenal to victory in an FA Cup final.

He is also the first manager to win a major trophy in their first season in charge of the club since George Graham in 1986-87.

Arteta told BBC 5 Live: ‘I am really proud of what we have achieved because I know the difficulties and everything we have been through,’ said Arteta.

‘For me personally, it has been so tough over the past six months with a lot of things that have happened in our lives but I had just one mission when I came here and that was to make the players and staff believe we could do it.

‘We had to change that energy and that mentality and just by seeing them in the dressing room all together, and the way they enjoy their profession and their time together, it makes me more proud and as a consequence of that after we can achieve things and win titles together.’
