Steven Gerrard has reportedly rejected the opportunity to become the next Bristol City manager.

The Robins are looking for a new manager after sacking Lee Johnson earlier this month and the Rangers boss and Liverpool legend was one of their priority targets. 

But, according to the Bristol Post, Gerrard has turned down Bristol City’s advances and looks set to stay in post at Ibrox.

Johnson was sacked by the Robins on July 4 after the club explained that they want a change. 

Gerrard has impressed in his first senior managerial role at Rangers, leading them into the knockout stages of the Europa League this season.

They have also narrowed the gap to Celtic in recent years at the top of the Scottish Premiership but Gerrard was unable to stop their march to a ninth successive title last season.

The Championship club have also been linked with Ryan Lowe of Plymouth but Hughton has the experience of winning promotion with Newcastle and Brighton previously. 

Saturday’s defeat to Swansea City left them 11th in the table and Bristol City take on Preston on the final day of the season on Wednesday night.
