‘The difference between Ole and me is he’s being given time’: David Moyes likens his short-lived Manchester United reign to that of current boss Solskjaer… but says he was treated DIFFERENTLY by Ed Woodward and Co

  • David Moyes has reflected on a lack of patience shown with him at Old Trafford
  • The current West Ham manager compared his tenure to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s
  • Moyes believes the main difference is that Solskjaer has been given backing
  • United axed the 57-year-old ten months into his tenure despite his six-year deal

David Moyes has compared his ill-fated reign at Manchester United to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s, claiming the only difference is that the current Old Trafford boss has been shown more patience.

The 57-year-old, now in charge of West Ham, was hired to replace Sir Alex Ferguson after his retirement in 2013 but proved a truly disastrous appointment.

With the defending Premier League champions languishing in seventh spot and out of European contention, United axed him just ten months into the role.

And Moyes has once again alluded to his belief that he was unfortunate not to have been given more time to reserve the club’s poor fortunes.

United meet West Ham on Wednesday evening in a crucial clash which may strengthen their hopes of a Champions League spot. Their opponents, meanwhile, have ensured their top flight status with two consecutive victories.

Speaking ahead of the game, the Scotsman has reflected on his time at United, and insisted Solskjaer is now reaping the rewards from the level of backing he never had.

He said: ‘It’s a wonderful club and a brilliant place to be, and the biggest club in the world, for me.

‘It’s always a special place to go and I’m looking forward to going back.

‘Ole had a difficult start, but the difference between Ole and me is that he’s being given time.’

Moyes has also heaped praise on the current United incumbent for paving the way for several academy starlets to break into the first team.

‘He’s bringing players in from the Academy, which Manchester United has always stood for,’ he added. ‘They’ve got some really exciting young players of their own now.’

Having sacked Moyes, despite initially handing him a six-year contract, United turned to Ryan Giggs to steer them through the last four league games of their forgettable campaign.

With another club legend at the helm, the club appear back on track after a barren spell of failing to challenge for the Premier League title.
