West Ham confident they will NOT face FIFA sanction after Eintracht Frankfurt complain over Premier League side defaulting on £5.4m payment for top scorer Sebastien Haller

  • West Ham paid £45million to Eintracht Frankfurt for Sebastien Haller last year
  • An agreement was struck between the two clubs to pay the fee in instalments
  • The Times claim the Hammers have defaulted on their latest instalment due
  • But the Premier League club are confident they will not face FIFA sanctions

West Ham are confident they will not face any punishment after Eintracht Frankfurt complained to FIFA about the Premier League club defaulting on a £5.4million payment for Sebastien Haller.

Haller joined for a record £45m fee last summer — 75 per cent of which was paid up front — but West Ham missed paying their latest instalment on May 15.

Yet West Ham insiders insist the contractual problem is a misunderstanding which will be resolved before world football’s governing body have a chance to investigate or issue any sanctions.

The Times revealed that the German club have lodged a complaint after the east London side defaulted on their latest instalment of £5.4m for their current top scorer.

FIFA’s rules on ‘overdue payables’ state that ‘clubs are required to comply with their financial obligations towards players and other clubs as per the terms stipulated in the contracts signed with their professional players and in the transfer agreements’.

Any club found to have delayed a scheduled payment for more than 30 days without an agreement ‘may be sanctioned’, with punishments varying from a warning to a fine and, in more serious cases, a ban for one or two transfer windows.

FIFA rules state that more serious penalties are usually imposed for repeat offences.

The two clubs agreed that the fee for the Frenchman would be paid over instalments

The Times report adds the delayed payment was not related to any cash problem caused by the coronavirus pandemic but instead was concerned with a contractual issue with Frankfurt.

Haller appeared to be a promising signing for West Ham with three goals in his first three games but his goal threat has since diminished and his return currently reads as seven goals in 29 appearances this season.

Haller made numerous appearances for the France Under-21 team and other youth sides but has not been capped at senior level.
