Take a dip in the world of pottery with Kavish Gobin

“Coming from a small village in the East of the Island, I have always dreamed of making it big in life someday. I took an ‘Automobile Engineering’ Course so as to pursue my passion of mechanics. However, my passion for pottery was more significant. I ended up following my father’s artisanal path, who was a potter, and decided to build my own pottery workshop.” Hence, inspired by his father Bidianund Gobin, ‘Maison de la poterie’ saw the day about nine years ago.
His mother, Devika Rampersad Gobin, has been his biggest support in realizing his dream. “She began seeing my dream as hers and together we decided to fulfill it.” Kavish and his mother faced various hardships during the initial days. However, their hard work paid off when Kavish started getting recognition for his work and finally created his mark in the pottery world.
“During the festive seasons I would get a lot of orders for lamps and my mother would help me. Slowly, I started challenging the traditional ways of pottery and took it a level higher. I started making statues and figurines. More and more people turned to me for decorative pots to add a touch of tradition to their home décor”.
Life has not always been easy on this young lad. After having lost his father some years back, Kavish recently lost his mother. His only strong support is gone. However, Kavish is not one to be easily discouraged. “All I am today is because of my parents. It is my duty to continue this legacy which they have bestowed onto me. And with their blessings I shall continue to work harder.”
For the time being, the young artist is taking a breathe before resuming to his craft. “I hope to innovate and continue pleasing my clients in the future and most importantly, to continue making my mom and dad proud.”
