Monaco are preparing to make a move for Tottenham defender Serge Aurier this summer, according to Sky Sports.

The 27-year-old, who came close to leaving Spurs last year, is Jose Mourinho‘s first choice right back and has made 35 appearances in all competitions this season.

However, Aurier has now emerged as a target for French side Monaco, who have former Tottenham recruitment chief Paul Mitchell in charge of signing players.

The departure of Kieran Trippier to Atletico Madrid last summer left the ex-PSG star as one of two right backs in the squad along with Kyle Walker-Peters.

But after the academy product moved to Southampton on loan in January, Aurier has played an even more important role in Spurs’ push for the top four.

Monaco, who finished ninth in the cancelled Ligue 1 season, are on the lookout for a new right back with Djibril Sidibe’s future up in the air.

The Frenchman has spent the season on loan at Everton and could leave for around £12million this summer, with AC Milan among the club’s keen on him.

Aurier, meanwhile, has scored twice and provided eight assists for Tottenham this term after arriving from PSG for £23m in the summer of 2017.

Mourinho is unlikely to want to lose the defender as he faces up to a difficult transfer window, with Spurs limiting spending amid the coronavirus pandemic.
