The contribution of the Mauritius Duty Free Paradise Co Ltd (MDFP) as a Gold Sponsor, amounting to Rs 6 million, will indeed help the Organising Committee of the Indian Ocean Island Games 2019 (IOIG) to host the sporting event to be held from 19 to 28 July 2019 in Mauritius, in the most favourable and best conditions possible.

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Stephan Toussaint, was speaking this afternoon at the signing of the sponsorship (Gold Sponsorship) contract of the Organising Committee of the IOIG 2019 held at Citadelle Mall in Port Louis.

Minister Toussaint expressed his appreciation to the MDFP for extending its collaboration which will considerably help the Organising Committee to achieve the set objectives with regards to IOIG 2019. He stated that Government is making provision of proper sports infrastructure and is creating the best possible conditions for the athletes’ preparation and participation at the Games.

Moreover, the Minister recalled that the event is in line with Government’s core objective of promoting and fostering the sports culture among the population so as to build a healthy nation.  He also announced the holding of a major countdown activity on 9 April 2019, with the aim of encouraging Mauritians to take an interest in the IOIG 2019.

For his part, the Chief Executive Officer of the 2019 IOIG’s Organising Committee, Mr Jean-Pierre Sauzier, expressed his appreciation to the Gold Sponsor for both its strong interest and commitment as well as for its significant financial contribution in the hosting of the Games.

Moreover, he recalled that the mission of the Organising Committee and collaborating partners behind the holding of this key event is to demonstrate commitment and patriotism. He highlighted that the resulting success of the Games will considerably enhance the visibility of the country and improve its international image.

The Chairman of MDFP, Mr Rashad Racheed Daureeawoo, said that the contribution of his organisation to the hosting of the IOIG is a testimony of its strong sense of patriotism and their unflinching support to Government. The MDFP, he emphasised, is pleased to be associated with the IOIG which is a national event that will promote solidarity and unity among the population and will be an opportunity to create a new dynamism with regards to the international relations of Mauritius.
