GIS – 4 Apr 2019: Around one hundred Officers of the administrative, technical, human resource and finance cadre are currently participating in a training workshop on ‘Gender Mainstreaming’ and ‘Gender Responsive Budgeting’ being held at the National Empowerment Foundation, Garden Tower, in Port-Louis.
The aim is to enhance the capacity of participants to implement ‘Gender Mainstreaming’ and ‘Gender Responsive Budgeting’ in their respective policies/plans/programmes and to equip them with the technical skills accordingly.
The workshops, organised by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, in collaboration with the Prime Minister’s Office and the UNDP, is in line with Budget 2018-2019 and the three-year Strategic Plan which lays emphasis on the training of Officers on ‘Gender Mainstreaming Strategies’. The overall objective is to engender the policies and programmes of Government as well as furthering the efforts on ‘Gender Responsive Budgeting’ in Mauritius.
Discussions are focusing on: CEDAW Concluding Comments for Mauritius which provides an insight where Mauritius stands in regard to its international commitments; National Gender Policy Framework for Mauritius ; key findings and recommendations of the Gender Audit in the Civil Service in Mauritius; and, the checklist developed by the Caucus on how to do gender analysis. The resource person of a Lead International Consultant recruited by the UNDP.
