Heroin worth Rs 5.4 million seized at SSR International Airport

GIS – 5 December 2019: A total of 362.8 grams of heroin worth Rs 5.4 million was seized on Friday 22 November 2019 at the SSR International Airport by Customs Officers of the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) Customs Anti-Narcotics Section (CANS).

 

The heroin was found on a South African passenger of 46 years who was intercepted in the Green Channel. The female passenger, who arrived on Air Mauritius flight MK 852 from South Africa, had swallowed 20 pellets and had stuffed 12 pellets in her private parts.

 

During examination of her luggage, one pellet fell to the ground. She was subject to a consented body search and 12 pellets were secured.  The passenger was handed over to the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) for further investigation and controlled delivery.  At the hospital, the South African purged 20 pellets.
