Republic of Mauritius- President of Madagascar will be the Chief Guest for National Day Celebrations 2019

GIS – 08 March, 2019: The President of the Republic of Madagascar, Mr Andry Nirina Rajoelina, accompanied by his spouse, Mrs Mialy Rajoelina, will be on a State Visit to Mauritius from 10 to 13 March 2019. President Rajoelina will be the Chief Guest of the Government on the occasion of the National Day Celebrations.

He will lead a nine-member delegation comprising several ministers, namely the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Naina Andriantsitohaina; the Minister of Tertiary Education and Scientific Research, Mrs Félicité Rejo-Fienena; the Minister of National Defense, General Léon Jean Richard Rakotonirina; the Minister of Economy and Finance, Mr Richard Randriamandrato; the Minister of Transport, Tourism and Meteorology, Mr Joël Randriamandranto; the Minister of Communication and Culture, Mrs Lalatiana Rakotondrazafy Andriatongarivo; and the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Crafts, Mrs Rakotomalala Lantosa.

 

Following his arrival on 10 March 2019, the President of the Republic of Madagascar will pay a courtesy call on the Acting President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Paramasivum Pillay Vyapoory, at the State House, Réduit.

 

On 11 March 2019, he will have a tête-à-tête and a working session at the Receptorium of the National Assembly, with the Prime Minister, Minister of Home Affairs, External Communications and National Development Unit, and Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth.

 

During the State visit, the following Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) will be signed:

 

·         MoU in the field of Tertiary Education and Scientific Research, between the Ministry of Education and Human Resources, Tertiary Education and Scientific Research and the Ministry of Tertiary Education and Scientific Research of the Republic of Madagascar, with a view to promoting cooperation among the higher education institutions of both countries.

 

·         MoU in the field of standardisation, between the Mauritius Standards Bureau and the Bureau des Normes de Madagascar to provide a framework for scientific and technical cooperation.

 

An Agreement on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters which will be an important tool in the fight against drug trafficking and financial crime, including money laundering will also be signed with the Government of the Republic of Madagascar.

 

The President will also effect visits at the Omnicane Factory Area at L’Escalier; the Aapravasi Ghat World Heritage Site in Port Louis; and the Le Morne Cultural Heritage Site.

 

On 12 March 2019, President Rajoelina along with his delegation will be at the Champ de Mars to attend the official celebrations marking the National Day.

 

A working session with the business community, hosted by the Economic Development Board, is also scheduled.
