He underlined that the country has over time made significant progress with regard to improving women’s standard of living and quality of life. As we are set to celebrate the 51 years of the independence of Mauritius, he said, it is vital to valorise the significant contributions of women in both social and economic spheres.
Prime Minister Jugnauth pointed out that Government is extending its support to enterprises so as to enable them to put forward their competitive advantage as well as promote innovation, creativity and high quality. He also recalled a series of measures namely fostering import substitution and reviving export led production which have been undertaken so as to help boost the Mauritian Export Processing sector. It is nevertheless the responsibility of the enterprises to constantly innovate and launch new products in relevance to new trends and market demands, he added.
Speaking on the role of women in the sector, Mr Jugnauth reiterated his appeal for a change in mindsets and attitudes in order to attain gender equality, and consequently a fairer and more just society. He also expressed his appreciation for the brilliant pieces of work produced by the female employees of the RT Knits Ltd and encouraged them to continue to work with the same zeal and spirit.
