Situated in the heart of Rayong, a gateway to the island destination Koh Samet, Holiday Inn & Suites Rayong City Centre is the first and only internationally-branded hotel in the area. It’s a landmark hotel by IHG which offers versatile meeting rooms and ballrooms, along with its 288 guest rooms.
Leading its commercial team is the director of sales and marketing, Rajan Krishnan, an accomplished hospitality sales professional who has honed his skills over a period of 22 years in the global sales arena. He was instrumental in setting up the global sales operations for IHG in India starting 2010 and was responsible for growing it successfully when he moved to Dubai with IHG at the end of 2015.
In this interview, we asked him about his first professional assignment in Southeast Asia and his favourite recommendations for travellers in Rayong, Thailand.
Since claiming your new role in December, how has it been so far? What new opportunities are you excited about?
It’s a privilege to lead the team which is well set up and motivated to deliver on our promise to all stakeholders. What keeps me going is the amazing feedback and testimonials from our guests who thoroughly enjoy being in Rayong and rave about our rooftop grill and bar and outstanding service from our hotel associates.
“We anticipate more new projects”
The hotel is well established and is a landmark in Rayong. Our MICE offerings with a pillarless ballroom and two connecting floors of huge meeting spaces are a clear winner when it comes to an outstanding meeting destination just two hours’ drive from Bangkok.
In terms of new opportunities, with the government’s focus on the EEC project, we anticipate more new projects which portend ample opportunities for us to showcase our hospitality to new customers and companies.
What would you say, is your favourite feature, or favourite spot in the hotel?
It’s actually two – Elementi, the rooftop bar and grill and our Infiniti pool. Elementi offers an outstanding selection of the finest steaks and Italian cuisine in Rayong complemented by a wide selection of fine wines. The Infiniti pool on the 29th floor offers a tranquil oasis of peace in which one can relax and unwind sipping on a drink whilst taking in the fantastic view of Rayong City and The Gulf!

What activities do you recommend guests around Rayong?
I would definitely recommend a day trip to Koh Samet for its white sandy beaches, water sports activities and clear waters, the Suphattra Land Fruit Farm to sample the widest variety of fruits and the Night markets to experience local cuisine.
