GIS – 6 November 2019: Diplomas in specialisation in Emergency Medicine were awarded, yesterday, to 14 doctors of the Emergency medical services of Mauritius during a ceremony organised by the Mauritius Institute of Health, held at the School of Nursing in Pamplemousses.

The doctors have successfully completed a three-year training programme (2016-2019) dispensed in joint collaboration by the University Hospital of Bordeaux and Reunion Island.

They will be the first medical specialists in Emergency Medicine in Mauritius and will be assigned to the emergency medicine services of the Ministry of Health and Quality of Life; and, out-of-hospital (SAMU) and intra-hospital (Accident and Emergency) of the five Regional Hospitals. A second batch of 25 doctors will complete the same training in November 2020.

The training is yet another initiative of the privileged partnership that Mauritius shares with France in various spheres.  France has been providing considerable assistance to the Ministry of Health and Quality of Life in the training of its personnel for the strengthening of its institutional capacities for better delivery of services.

It is recalled that the Ministry is currently collaborating with the University of Bordeaux and Reunion Island, for the training of doctors for specialisation in gynaecology and obstetrics.
